Mollie is a developer driven European payment service provider. Every day we are looking to break the traditional ways of payments by testing the boundaries of code. We want to use code to make payments accessible to everyone and empower entrepreneurs of all sizes to efficiently manage their money flows.

What will you do?

Our engineering team has grown to 35 engineers, that collaborate on building new products and solving complex problems that result from from our increasing numbers of merchants, partners and clients around Europe.

As an Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for one of our multi-disciplinary product teams. You will work with the Engineering and Product leads to form a new engineering team from existing engineers, shape their roadmap and start delivering new products. As an Engineering Manager, you play a vital part in our efforts to find a balance between technological excellence and customer value. Being the first Engineering Manager in our office, you will play an integral part in structuring processes, helping to build on our high-performance culture, and shaping how engineering happens at Mollie.

Besides the above-mentioned, these are the 3 most important aspects of your job:

Strategy & Planning

Aligning closely with our existing engineering teams for product & technical goals within your domain, all of which are in the same office in Amsterdam.Linking tech efforts to business goals; You know how to shape, mold and develop the engineering team to ensure they are moving in the same direction as the business.

Engineering excellence

Communication across teams; You are the first point of technical contact for their topic. You will lead a team and plan their capacity as they work on challenges code, improving our microservice architecture and implementing new features.

Team Building & Management

You play a leading role in appraisals, reviews, coaching and mentoring, and ensuring the team feels engaged and valued. You think proactively about the professional development of the existing team, expanding the team with high potentials, as well as the best way to retain our talent.

When it comes to Engineering you at least have a minimum of 5 years experience with developing web applications, preferably using PHP / MySQL stacks. You have experience with continuous deployment or continuous integration and Docker setups. You have knowledge of modern queueing and caching systems like RabbitMQ, Redis, or Kafka.

Requirements:

  • You have experience in a similar role managing multiple multi-disciplinary development squads for at least a few years;
  • You have a solid background in PHP software engineering;
  • You are able to effectively coordinate and solve immediate issues with the team. Make the right decisions and follow and extend procedures;
  • You're used to work in a highly regulated environment;
  • A proven leader who has scaled up and managed Engineering teams.
