Your opportunity

In its journey to become the most loved payment service provider in Europe, Mollie is continuously investing and growing its Engineering department. We recently successfully launched an Engineering Hub in Lisbon and we are set to replicate this journey in one of the most vibrant cities in Europe: Milan! Milan’s hub will contribute to Mollie’s mission with multiple passionate agile engineering teams that will innovate, build and contribute to our portfolio of next-generation payment products. You will be working with your team on creating cutting-edge, user-friendly financial products and APIs which are used by tens of thousands of merchants on a daily basis.

We care for quality and well-designed user experiences—for engineers and non-engineers alike.
This translates to clean, well-documented REST APIs and equally smooth dashboard interfaces for our merchants.

With multiple payments per second at any point of the day, code quality and system reliability are becoming increasingly important for your team. As an engineering lead who has guided teams that worked on systems at scale, you motivate the team to build the next generation of reliable, event-driven, and cloud-native solutions.

As an engineering lead, you are responsible for building a world-class engineering team with a hacker's mindset towards problem-solving. You'll select and train team members through continuous feedback, mentoring, and coaching.

You bring a strong perspective that inspires change and motivates engineers to develop simple yet scalable solutions to complex problems. You will work closely together with the back-end engineers on your team, your product owner, and the other team leaders in the engineering leadership team.


What you’ll be doing
  • Manage a team of 4-8 engineers directly, go through performance cycles, train them through coninuous feedback and help them to the next stages in their career
  • Be involved in the hiring process in order to build a world-class engineering team
  • You bring a strong perspective that inspires change and motivate engineers to develop scalable solutions
  • Work with engineers and product to create the roadmapWork together with the team to create cutting-edge, user friendly financial products and APIs which are used by tens of thousands of merchants on a daily basisLead and enable engineers across the stack
  • Develop a positive & collaborative work culture that empowers the team to perform at their best


What you'll bring
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience developing large scale web applications of which 3+ years in an engineering leadership role
  • Experience with PHP is preferable, other languages (like Go, Java, Python) are a plus
  • Experience building strong, effective engineering teams through hiring, coaching and mentoring
  • Experience in developing large scale systems and driving technical and architectural discussion within the team
  • Excellent communication skills with an ability to influence stakeholders

About Engineering

Mollie is expanding its product portfolio, geographic footprint, and internal organization rapidly. The Web Team is responsible for the Mollie.com website and all related web architecture. The web team helps Mollie express its value proposition to the outside world, inform, convert and acquire new customers and to enable internal teams to use the Mollie.com site as a platform for growth.
