Engineer II Java - Partnership

In its journey to become the most loved payment service provider in Europe, Mollie is continuously investing and growing its Engineering department. We recently successfully launched an Engineering Hub in Lisbon and we are set to replicate this journey in one of the most vibrant cities in Europe: Milan!

Milan’s hub will contribute to Mollie’s mission with multiple passionate agile engineering teams that will innovate, build and contribute to our portfolio of next-generation payment products. Our focus is on creating highly scalable solutions that can handle a high volume of payments per second throughout the day. Code quality and system scalability are of paramount importance, and we value forward-thinking experts who can contribute to building scalable systems.

As an Engineer II for Hosted Integrations you’ll be a vital part of our Partnerships domain, where we are dedicated to crafting seamless end-to-end integrations towards our merchants’ technology stack. Our focus includes optimizing payment method selection, conversion, and downstream processes like shipping and accounting. We are committed to making it as effortless as possible for businesses to integrate Mollie into their operations and thrive. Our mission includes

What you’ll be doing

  • Develop and shape Mollie’s position in European markets and their merchants experiences through our integrations

  • Work closely with our product managers to turn great ideas into elegant and impactful products

  • Connect Mollies platform to other APIs in the ecommerce space, primarily in the payment “hot path”

  • While this is primarily a backend role, there might occasionally be some frontend problems to solve

  • We’ll create something new from the ground up

What you’ll bring

  • A minimum of 8 years experience in developing large-scale web applications.

  • Strong knowledge of Java is a must; other languages (like PHP,  Go and TypeScrip) are a plus.

  • You know all about Service Oriented Architecture patterns.

  • Some professional grasp of working with the public cloud (either GCP, AWS or Azure)

  • You have a background of building scalable systems

  • Creative problem-solving skills

  • Excellent communication skills and you've worked effectively with different stakeholders

Nice to haves:

  • You have previously worked in a fast-paced environment

  • Previous knowledge of Google Cloud Platform

  • You know about event streaming and distributed systems

  • You have migrated services between microservices and monoliths and understanding the practical tradeoffs of one architecture versus the other

  • You have previously worked within the Payments or FinTech sector

About the Department

Our Integrations team sits right between Product and Partnerships, bridging the gap between technology and commerce. We are translators and enablers, troubleshooters and nerds, bold and authentic.

Currently we’re working on creating a unified architecture for all our Integrations. You’ll be creating a new stack of applications from scratch, while ensuring a smooth transition from the legacy integrations for our merchants.
