Your opportunity
At Mollie, we’re on a mission to make payments and money management effortless for every business in Europe. We started 20 years ago when we launched a more direct, affordable way for companies to get paid. That provided an alternative to the frustrating, overpriced solutions that banks offered at the time.
Today, we serve more than 250,000 businesses across Europe with an all-in-one solution that simplifies payments and money management. And we’re a 850-strong team of product, finance, support, commerce, and engineering specialists working across Europe – from Lisbon to London.
As an Application Engineer II at Mollie, you will have the opportunity to utilize your technical and leadership skills to develop innovative, user-friendly financial products and APIs that serve tens of thousands of merchants daily. Your role will focus on creating highly scalable solutions capable of processing numerous payments per second, where code quality and system performance are critical. You will play a vital part in building robust architectures and optimizing our systems to meet the increasing demands of our merchants, while also having the chance to bring your product development ideas to life as we pursue ambitious expansion plans.
Our Milan Hub:
In 2023, we successfully launched a new hub in one of the most vibrant cities in Europe: Milan! Since its inception, the Milan hub has been consolidated and continues to grow at a fast pace, contributing significantly to Mollie’s mission with multiple passionate agile engineering teams that will innovate, build, and enhance our portfolio of next-generation payment products. You'll work in a cross-functional team (Data, Machine Learning, Platform and Product) to accelerate our product delivery.
What you'll be doing

Our architecture
Mollie’s frontend landscape consists of multiple apps, each optimized for its specific purpose, such as our merchant dashboard, API documentation, and mobile apps. Our apps are generally written in TypeScript using React. Our backend system is primarily written in Java (Spring Boot), hosting them on Google Cloud. Many adjacent services are built in PHP and also run on Google Cloud. We prioritize performance, stability, and resilience, continuously enhancing our applications to handle the next phase of growth.
What you'll bring
A minimum of 3-4 years of experience in developing complex, appealing and responsive web applications
Experience with domain-driven or service-oriented architectures
Experience with TypeScript (React)
Track record or strong desire to build cross-stack (70% frontend, 30% backend)
We know how hard it is at times to self-evaluate. Like in this case: you might read ‘experience developing complex apps’, and might be in doubt after that - ‘did I really build apps that are complex enough?’
Many of us at Mollie recall those moments of doubt when applying to vacancies too. With this we would like to encourage you: if that’s how you just felt - please click apply. It speaks a lot about your personal strengths.
We at Mollie promise a non-judgemental and casual environment during interviews, and we consistently hear from candidates that this is how they perceived this process.
