Business Development Manager - Emerging markets

Your opportunity
As a Business Development Manager for Emerging Markets, your role will be to add new customers to Mollie's portfolio. This opportunity will significantly influence Mollie’s expansion in offering online and offline payments across Europe. Although we have offices in seven countries with local commercial teams, we see there are many more opportunities in other regions. We currently already have business in those regions that work with Mollie. This role is fully focused on those opportunities. You will be based at our Amsterdam headquarters but will have the opportunity to travel to prospective clients in other countries.

You will work independently to identify opportunities and guide them from the first contact through to closing and onboarding. You’ll manage quicker mid-market deals as well as complex sales cycles, including RFPs, interacting with senior stakeholder groups, conducting international sales across markets, and engaging in sophisticated negotiations. Our best business development managers are not just focused on numbers; they genuinely care about our customers. They find joy in the journey and are ready to celebrate every milestone with a close-knit team. Does this sound like you? If so, we could be a great match!

What you'll be doing:

  • Growing Mollie’s market share in regions where Mollie does not have a physical presence (Eastern, Northern, and Southern EU).

  • Identifying, contacting, and visiting potential new customers, guiding them from initial contact through to live implementation.

  • Nurturing and managing inbound opportunities from first contact to go-live.

  • Handling mid-market deals and complex sales cycles, including RFPs, senior stakeholder management, international sales, and sophisticated negotiations.

  • Coordinating with internal and external stakeholders for the onboarding and integration of new customers to ensure successful go-live, then handing over to Customer Success for larger and more complex customers.

  • Contributing to strategic considerations such as pricing strategies and product development, and driving change initiatives.

  • Acting as a payments thought leader within Mollie and the external market, proactively identifying and translating industry-wide and sector-specific impacts to clients.

What you'll bring

  • Fluency in Dutch and English.

  • 3+ years of experience in Business Development and/or Partnerships.

  • Significant knowledge of the e-commerce ecosystem, preferably across multiple regions in Europe.

  • An extensive international network of e-commerce professionals.

  • A proactive attitude: not afraid to pick up the phone, break through barriers, and think creatively.

  • Eagerness to travel for prospect visits or events.

  • Experience with complex sales processes and RFPs.

  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with experience working independently with C-level and senior management teams.

  • Proven track record of meeting and exceeding commercial targets.

  • Enthusiasm and passion as a self-starter, unafraid to challenge the status quo and approach problems from a different perspective.

  • Strong team player and an excellent collaborator.

  • Exceptional communication skills and the ability to build strong relationships, with well-honed negotiation skills.

  • Experience using Salesforce, sales engagement tools, sequences, etc.
