Staff React Native Specialist – Merchant Experience

Staff React Native Specialist – Merchant Experience

Your opportunity

At Mollie, we aim to deliver effortless payments and money management for every business. As we evolve beyond payments into a true money management platform, the Merchant Experience domain is at the center of this transformation, shaping how merchants interact with Mollie every day across web and mobile.

Our mobile app is becoming a primary workspace for businesses, and we are entering the next phase of growth: a world where every product team will own and ship their features seamlessly across platforms.

To enable this, we are hiring a Staff React Native Specialist at domain level. This is a highly strategic and deeply technical role reporting directly into the Merchant Experience Domain Lead, with impact spanning multiple teams and domains.

You will own the foundations of our React Native platform: the low-level architecture, performance, developer experience, and monorepo strategy that will allow Mollie to scale mobile development across the organization.

This role is about building the system that enables everyone else to build faster.

What you’ll be doing

As a Staff React Native Specialist, you will operate as the domain-wide technical authority for React Native and mobile platform foundations. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Owning Mollie’s React Native architecture at the deepest level, ensuring long-term scalability, performance, and maintainability.

  • Driving the next evolution of our mobile platform by establishing a monorepo and shared foundation that enables every team to ship cross-platform features independently.

  • Defining the standards, patterns, and best practices that will allow Mollie to scale React Native development across many teams without fragmentation.

  • Building and maintaining core platform modules: navigation, authentication, localization, offline support, observability, performance tooling, and shared UI primitives.

  • Ensuring seamless feature parity and consistency between Mollie’s mobile and web experiences.

  • Partnering with engineering leaders across domains to enable distributed feature ownership while maintaining a coherent platform.

  • Leading technical initiatives that reduce complexity, improve release confidence, and raise the overall quality bar of Mollie’s mobile ecosystem.

  • Mentoring senior engineers and acting as a multiplier across the organization through coaching, design reviews, and architectural guidance.

  • Serving as a key driver of Mollie’s long-term mobile strategy as we transition from centralized delivery to domain-owned, cross-platform execution.

Our architecture

Mollie’s frontend ecosystem spans multiple applications, including our merchant dashboard, mobile apps, and developer-facing experiences.

Our stack includes:

  • Mobile: React Native + TypeScript, evolving toward shared domain-owned feature modules

  • Frontend: React, TypeScript, component-driven development

  • Backend: Primarily PHP & Java, deployed in Google Cloud

  • Infrastructure: Service-based architecture, supported by queueing systems

  • Developer Experience: Strong investment in internal tooling, CI/CD, and platform consistency

This role will be foundational in shaping how Mollie builds mobile software at scale for the next decade.

What you’ll bring

We are looking for an exceptional mobile platform engineer with deep React Native expertise and proven Staff-level leadership.

  • 15+ years of professional software engineering experience, with significant depth in mobile development

  • 8+ years of hands-on React Native experience, including large-scale production apps

  • Deep expertise in mobile architecture, performance optimization, and native platform integration (iOS/Android)

  • Strong command of TypeScript, React, and modern application engineering practices

  • Proven experience building platform foundations, shared libraries, design systems, or developer frameworks that enable other teams

  • Experience designing and scaling monorepo architectures and cross-team ownership models

  • Strong understanding of testing, release safety, observability, and operational excellence in mobile environments

  • Expertise in developer tooling, CI/CD pipelines, and mobile release infrastructure

  • Ability to influence across teams and domains, aligning engineering leaders around shared standards

  • Track record of mentoring senior engineers and driving organization-wide technical change

  • Experience operating in high-reliability or regulated environments (fintech experience is a plus)

  • Strong passion for bridging mobile and web platforms through shared foundations and consistent user experiences
