Engineering Manager
Mollie is on a mission to make payments and money management effortless for every business in Europe. We're looking for a passionate and experienced Engineering Manager to join our growing team in Milan, Italy.
As an Engineering Manager in the Onboarding domain (~30 engineers), you'll lead a talented team of engineers (and possibly a second team later on), working closely with product managers, data analysts, data scientists, and a designer to build and maintain our new onboarding flows, ensuring a smooth and positive experience for our customers. This is a critical area of our business – it's the first impression we make on our customers, and it sets the stage for their long-term success with our platform.
Besides delivering new functionality you will also contribute to our domain tech strategy and stack modernization initiatives and shape a culture of excellence and collaboration.
What you'll be doing
Lead and Mentor: Guide, mentor, and develop a team of talented engineers, fostering a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performing environment. Conduct regular 1:1s, performance reviews, and career development planning.
Technical Strategy & Ownership: Define and own the technical roadmap for the Onboarding domain, aligning it with Mollie's overall product and engineering strategy. Make key architectural decisions and ensure the scalability, reliability, and security of our onboarding systems.
Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team: Work closely with product managers, designers, and other engineers to ensure a cohesive and user-centric onboarding experience.
Stay Current: Be on top of industry trends and emerging technologies relevant to onboarding, payments, and fintech. Ensure significant hands-on engineering work, building scalable, robust, and fault-tolerant systems, and full-stack products. Lead by example in guiding engineering excellence.
Performance Monitoring & Optimization: Monitor the performance and efficiency of the onboarding systems, proactively identifying and addressing bottlenecks and areas for improvement. Use data-driven insights to optimize the user experience and conversion rates.
Challenge ideas and bring your own: We encourage a culture of open communication and collaboration, where everyone feels empowered to share their ideas and contribute to the domain’s success.
What you have:
Management Experience: Preferably 2+ years of managing multidisciplinary teams, with a proven ability to recruit, retain, and grow top engineering talent.
Leadership Skills: Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and mentor engineering teams. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills. You are a great active listener.
Engineering Excellence: Significant hands-on experience in various contexts, building scalable, robust, and fault-tolerant systems and full-stack products, preferably on the JVM or PHP stacks.
Product Sense: A strong understanding of product development principles and a customer-centric approach.
Bias Towards Action: Balance speed and quality, make quick decisions, and learn from mistakes.
Problem-Solving Ability: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a passion for finding creative solutions to complex challenges.
Passion and Energy: Demonstrate ownership and enthusiasm, seeing new tasks as opportunities to contribute and grow.
Team Player Mindset: Foster a culture of collaboration and support, relying on candid feedback for continuous improvement and inspiring others to learn and grow.
Fluent in English: Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
We welcome people from all backgrounds who seek the opportunity to build a future where everyone and everything can move freely. If you have the curiosity, passion, and collaborative spirit, come work with us and help move the world forward together.
