Full-time

Your opportunity

At Mollie, we’re on a mission to make payments and money management effortless for every business in Europe.

We started 20 years ago when we launched a more direct, affordable way for companies to get paid. That provided an alternative to the frustrating, overpriced solutions that banks offered at the time.

Today, we serve more than 250,000 businesses across Europe with an all-in-one solution that simplifies payments and money management. And we’re a 850-strong team of product, finance, support, commerce, and engineering specialists working across Europe – from Lisbon to London.

We are looking for an experienced Full-stack engineer to join our Payment Foundations team. Our goal is to make services that facilitate the processing of payments (e.g. Settlement Processing & Reconciliation, Payment Method Activation) scalable, manageable and fault-tolerant

The team consists of an Engineering Manager, a product manager and 3 more engineers working across two different locations (Amsterdam and Lisbon). There is also a great opportunity to collaborate with UI engineers across the domains on setting good UI principles and creating reusable components.

The team offers great opportunities for people who like the challenge of creating something new from ground up and solve the problems of a business by defining and discovering processes and modelling the domain along the way.

Our Lisbon hub:

Situated in the heart of Lisbon at Marques de Pombal, our team of 50+ engineers from 8 different nationalities, are all contributing to Mollie’s mission of delivering an outstanding Merchant Experience through our web and mobile app at the same time that we are scaling and enhancing our Payment Processing and Orchestration Platform This enables the launch of innovative Payments and Financial Products.

We take pride in our diverse, English-speaking culture that brings open minds to collaborate and solve financial challenges for our customers.

What you will be doing:

  • Building Large-Scale Systems: Help us design and engineer systems that can scale to manage high volumes of transactions efficiently and effectively.

  • API and Service Development: Design, build, and maintain APIs, services, and systems across Mollie’s engineering teams.

  • Autonomy and Ownership: Lead technical initiatives from architecture design to implementation, ensuring engineering excellence throughout the process.

  • Problem-Solving: Utilize your creative problem-solving skills and analytical abilities to resolve complex issues and contribute to our mission of making financial processes effortless.

  • You should be comfortable being the sole UI expert in the team, participating in discussions around API design, understanding user requirements, and ensuring compliance with UI application standards within the organization.

What you will bring:

  • Always Be Shipping mindset: It’s about consistently delivering value to customers, where speed and quality go hand in hand.

  • 5+ years of experience in developing full-stack applications, with a strong focus on front-end development.

  • Tech stack that includes React-Redux and TypeScript for front-end development, PHP-Symfony and MySQL for back-end, and Terraform on GCP for deployments

  • Experience in designing systems and managing queuing, caching, concurrency, fault tolerance, and scalability
