Software Engineer - Payments

In its journey to become the most loved financial service provider in Europe, Mollie is continuously investing and growing its Engineering hub in Lisbon.
Lisbon’s hub is contributing to Mollie’s mission of delivering an outstanding Merchant Experience that allows Mollie to launch its next set of Payments and Financial Products.
As a software engineer in the Payments domain, you will play a key role in developing and maintaining software solutions that facilitate secure, efficient and seamless payment processing. This role is ideal for individuals with a solid foundation in software development and a keen interest in building highly complex, distributed systems.
What you will be doing
Building solid foundations for our payments ecosystem
Helping us develop innovative, scalable and quality software in Java / PHP
Working in a cross-functional team of engineers, product managers, designers and data analysts to build features at a large scale
Designing, developing, and maintaining APIs, services and systems across Mollie’s engineering teams
Evaluating & solving complex problems across the stack
Putting your skills to the test and allowing yourself to grow and learn rapidly
What you'll bring
2-5 years of experience in Java or PHP or other object-oriented languages (like C#, Go, Python) are welcome
Understanding of software development methodologies and best practices
Background in designing and building scalable systems & strong understanding of software architecture & design patterns
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
Nice to haves
Previous knowledge of Google Cloud Platform or similar cloud environments
You know about event streaming and distributed systems
You have participated in service migrations between microservices and monoliths and understanding the practical tradeoffs of one architecture versus the other
You have previously worked within the Payments or FinTech sector
Kindly note that relocation support is not offered for candidates outside of Europe for this role.
